2022 THC FLOWERS CHAMPION INTERVIEW

We’re still buzzing from the good vibes left by headliner Slick Rick at the 2022 awards show, and so is our 2022 THC Flowers Champion, Tyler:

“KING’S SUNDAY PIE” THC STRAIN by THE KUSHERY

  • cultivated in Washington, D.C.

  • grown in coco using canna nutrients

  • CHM x LED C.O.B. lighting

  • terpenes tested particularly high in β-Myrcene, α-Pinene, & β-Caryophyllene

Q: What have you been up to since NCF in April 2022?

Tyler:I’ve been working hard in my garden, specifically on a breeding project that I hope will yield another winner like the King’s Sunday Pie that took home the Championship Belt in 2022. I’m looking for a combination of the old school skunks flavors with a mix of fruity flavors that will give off a “rotten fruit” stank. Using a variety of my own genetics and a Durban Poison cut, I’m setting up for a heavy pheno-hunting round to find that “rotten fruit.”

Q: What should growers consider before entering the National Cannabis Championship?

Tyler:Select a genetic that is rare and different. Standing out, especially in a competition that rewards uniqueness is key. You don’t want to be growing what everyone else is.

Q: What do you  suggest for the novice grower before they start investing in cultivating cannabis?

Tyler:I recommend gaining a strong foundation before you start anything. Ed Rosenthal’s books help the newbies who are starting out. It’s better than getting overwhelmed by all the information on the internet. Lastly, cleanliness in the garden is a must and should always be at the top of the growers list of things to do.

Q: What are you looking forward to the most with this year’s Championship?

Tyler:I’m looking forward to meeting and seeing the other growers. It’s always interesting to see what people enter, how they grow, and exchange information.

We’re looking forward to having Tyler back at NCC to defend his title in April 2023. To peek at what he’s up to, find him on IG at @the.kushery. If you don’t find Tyler there or in his garden, you’ll find him on his boat or on the banks of the Potomac fishing. Grow, fish, repeat… now that’s a grower’s life we can get behind.
